What to do after Consuming poisons
Consuming poison occurs when a person ingests harmful substances, which can be accidental or intentional. The effects vary based on the type and amount of poison, causing symptoms like nausea, dizziness, breathing difficulties, or even life-threatening complications. Immediate first aid and medical attention are crucial to prevent serious health risks and ensure proper treatment.
First Aid Steps After Consuming Poison:
- Identify the Poison: Check the container of the substance, look for labels with first aid instructions, note symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, difficulty breathing, or unconsciousness.
- Do Not Induce Vomiting (Unless Advised by a Doctor): Vomiting can cause more harm, especially with corrosive substances (acid, petrol), solid items, unless instructed by MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.
- Rinse the Mouth: If the poison is not corrosive, give small sips of water or milk to dilute it, if it’s a corrosive substance (acid, alkali), rinse the mouth but do not swallow.
- Activated Charcoal (If Advised by a Doctor): Activated charcoal can absorb some poisons and should be used within an hour of poison consumption.
- Check for Breathing and Consciousness: If unconscious, place them in the recovery position (on their side). If not breathing, start CPR immediately.
- Prevent Further Exposure (involving fluid): Move the person to fresh air if poison was inhaled. Remove contaminated clothing if poison was spilled on skin.
- GET TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP WITH THE POISON CONTAINER.

When to Seek Medical Help:
Irrespective of if the symptom or no symptom, immediately get medical professional help ASAP. Symptoms can be delayed hours after poison consumption and can be risky to life.
CONCLUSION
It is important to understand the urgency of consuming poisons. Do not act rashly, take the necessary information with you, use absorbents like ground/activated/fine dust charcoal within the hour, and take the patient to the hospital. Remember not to force vomiting, it can be more harmful and should be used as a final resort in extreme cases.
